Iwelumo: Honest talk lifted us

The Scotland international claims Mick McCarthy's side turned in their worst performance of 2009 when losing 1-0 at home to Blues in late November.[LNB]That defeat extended Wolves' sequence without a league win to eight games and left them in 19th position in the top flight.[LNB]But striker Iwelumo believes that setback, and the positive reaction of the squad in adversity, has proved to be the turning point.[LNB]Wolves won three of their next four league games and then turned in encouraging performances when beaten by top four contenders Liverpool and Manchester City.[LNB]Iwelumo said: "The Birmingham game made us pull our fingers out. We knew what had to be done.[LNB]"Everyone had a good look at themselves, probably the staff included.[LNB]"We all pulled together and got nine points out of the next 12.[LNB]"The Birmingham game was the poorest we played throughout 2009, including the Championship games.[LNB]"I think there was so much emphasis placed on that match, with people saying, 'Birmingham got promoted with us so that's a six pointer'.[LNB]"We bigged it up too much and it left a lot of us flat."[LNB]Iwelumo added: "It hit home to everyone that you can't start a match like we did against Birmingham again, no matter what league you are in, never mind the Premier League which is the best league in the world.[LNB]"There were a few words exchanged amongst players and we are back on track now and we are moving forward."[LNB][LNB]
