The defender impressed for the Black Country side during the second half of last season having arrived from Colchester, but after starting this term in fine form he sustained knee ligament damage away at Ipswich in late August - ruling him out for the rest of the current campaign.

Wolves have constantly stood by the 23-year-old and his willingness to return to action appears to have finally been rewarded.

After agreeing new deals for first-team players Andy Keogh and Matt Jarvis, chief executive Jez Moxey told the club's official website: "We're also now talking to George Elokobi, although he's injured he's only got a year to go (on his current deal).

"He made such a great impact coming into the club from Colchester that we've started talking to him and I expect something to be announced imminently."

Meanwhile, Wolves have been shortlisted for the Championship's Family Club of the Year and Community Club of the Year honours at the 2009 Football League Awards.
