Bruce left 'gutted' after Wolves defeat
Steve Bruce was left "totally and utterly gutted" by Sunderland's poor finish to the season after his nine-man side lost 2-1 at Wolves.[LNB] Michael Turner and substitute debutant Jack Colback were both sent off in the last 10 minutes by referee Lee Mason, rounding off a season Bruce is the first to admit he would rather forget.[LNB]Bruce said: "I am totally and utterly gutted by this afternoon, totally disappointed by the way we have finished the season. I am not impressed by finishing 13th, because we are better than that."[LNB]Bruce said he did not have too many complaints over the late red cards, both of which were issued for second bookable offences, although he questioned the initial foul which got Colback in the book.[LNB]Bruce added: "I saw Jack's first challenge and he didn't touch him. His second was a bit naive but he is a young boy. I've got no complaints and really the whole performance was sloppy and not what we were looking for.[LNB]"I thought we played for 25 minutes and in the Premier League you can't do that. We had four opportunities and we didn't take them. Then we gave two stupid goals away and at this level you can't do that."[LNB]Bruce will now look to strengthen his side in the close season after a campaign which had its plus points but ultimately was crippled by a lengthy injury list and a dreadful record away from home.[LNB]"Our start to the season was good, the middle was average and the end was decent. But we have to do much better away from home. It's as if we always need a home crowd, which is a disappointing thing."[LNB]Wolves boss Mick McCarthy revealed match winner Adlene Guedioura would still be at the club next season with his club having taken up an option to make his loan deal from Belgian club Charleroi permanent.[LNB]McCarthy said: "It (the deal) is done now, it's all sorted. I know he's a good player and he's come from Charleroi and really added something to the Premier League. He's a lovely fellow and a good player."[LNB]McCarthy said he was delighted to see his side end their satisfying season with a victory and belived it would give them a kick-start when they return for pre-season training at the end of June.[LNB]McCarthy added: "Everyone was going to be happy whatever happened today but we wanted to finish with a flourish. It leaves a nice taste in the mouth and means we will not come back with any negative thoughts.[LNB]"I think Sunderland started the game really well and we looked second beest for a short while. They were probably the dominant team for 20 minutes but we dominated the second half and deserved the victory."[LNB]McCarthy became embroiled in a war of words with the Sunderland bench towards the end of the game but added: "It was competitive and I was competitive. But we all had a beer afterwards and there were no problems at all."[LNB]
