Boss: Stadium plans increase pressure
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy admits the £40million Molineux re-build scheme has ramped up the pressure on keeping the club in the Premier League.[LNB] The Steve Morgan-inspired project, described as "fabulous" by McCarthy, will see three sides of the ground developed and capacity raised to 36,000 over the course of the next five years.[LNB]But the pace of the development will be influenced by fortunes on the pitch and the manager acknowledges that means keeping Wolves in the top flight.[LNB]Speaking for the first time about the plans which were unveiled last month, McCarthy would love to still be manager when the new Molineux is complete in 2015.[LNB]McCarthy told the Express and Star: "It's a long way away - but what a project it is. I want to be here and overseeing it, or being involved in it all the time.[LNB]"It's thrilling to think what is going to happen at the stadium - it's an exciting time and I want to be involved in it.[LNB]"But the only way all that keeps churning forward is by being a Premier League club and that is my responsibility.[LNB]"My brief again is keeping the team in the league and progressing from last season."[LNB]Appointed in 2006, McCarthy is preparing for his fifth season in charge, an act of survival which bucks the trend in football management.[LNB]If the Wolves boss were to still be in charge to see the Class of 2015 run-out into the re-designed stadium it would be an even more remarkable achievement, but he is relishing the challenge.[LNB]He added: "It was a tough enough job when I came in 2006. It got increasingly tougher by expectation. Get promoted, best team in the league, to suddenly being expected to being one of the third worst in the league. Well we bucked that trend and now we keep trying to progress.[LNB]"The problem now is people's vision of it. It's going to take time. Keeping improving the team takes time.[LNB]"But it was me who kept a steady hand on the tiller and kept the sanity around the place when there was insanity raging last season.[LNB]"It was me who went to Old Trafford and took those decisions and then we took nine points out of 12. It was me who kept the sanity around the place there's no question of that.[LNB]"It was me that kept the middle of the road and that's what I shall continue to do."
