Boss backs Doyle to be a success
The former Reading striker moved to Molineux for a fee of £6.5million over the summer but has not yet managed to find the net for his new club.[LNB]However, the 25-year-old has struggled with injuries during his time at Wolves so far, including having to undergo a hernia op before the start of the season.[LNB]But McCarthy is sure that once he has fully adjusted to life at Molineux he will become a key figure in the squad.[LNB]"Doyle is a really good player," the former Sunderland boss told the Birmingham Mail. "I feel for him because he has had to come in and try and play when he has not been fit.[LNB]"Then he gets himself fully fit, goes away and plays two games, or a game and two thirds, for Ireland before our game on the Saturday."[LNB]Despite Wolves slumping to a 3-1 defeat to Blackburn in their last Premier League match, McCarthy was eager to take the positives from the contest.[LNB]New signing Stefan Maierhofer proved a livewire when brought on at half-time as he went close numerous times before finally grabbing a consolation goal in the closing minutes.[LNB]McCarthy insists that the Austrian striker's performance on Saturday proves that he is not as one-dimensional as his towering frame would suggest.[LNB]"We don't see him as a novelty, we see him as a good player and a threat for us,'' the 50-year-old added. "He has played 45 minutes and scored a goal. A lot of players in the Premier League don't score any goals.[LNB]"If he does what he did on Saturday - and not everything he did turned to goals - but he had one header saved on the line and a shot that flashed about a yard wide and he scored.
