Big Chris wants home win for Burley

The national team boss has yet to record a victory at home since taking over the helm in January 2008. In fact, the Scots have not triumphed on home soil since defeating Ukraine in a European Championship qualifier 18 months ago and Iwelumo admits a win is long overdue. "This is the time," he said. "It's going to happen at some point so Wednesday is a time to do it. "We know what's at hand and what we have to. There's no time like the present. "We're disappointed about the Holland game but we've got to let that go now and focus on the next one which is massive. "There's no negative thinking in the squad. We know what's at stake and we're confident that we can get Georgie Boy his first win at Hampden." Scotland are likely to adopt a more positive approach for the visit of Iceland and Iwelumo hopes to be one of the two strikers given the nod. The Wolves hitman hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons thanks to his glaring miss in the goalless draw against Norway but is happy with his current form. He said: "Every player is here because they want to play and show what they can do and I'm no different. "I've scored for Wolves recently although it was a long time coming. It was against my old club [Charlton] as well which added a wee extra bit to it. "I'm feeling good and hopefully we can all go into the match on a high and show what we're about. "I wanted to play a part in the Holland game and thought I would be in with a good chance. If we were going to play one up front leading the line then I've done that last season for Charlton in probably half the games. "I think all the players who didn't start on Saturday were all disappointed as we all wanted to play. That's the way it should be. "If I'm asked to do a job on Wednesday night I'll be delighted. If not, then I'll want us to go out there and get three points." Scotland sit joint second with Iceland having taken just four points from as many games and Iwelumo is well aware of the importance of picking up maximum points from all their remaining matches at Hampden. "I think that's spot on," he said. "There is no margin for error and there is pressure there. "There's always a job to do, whether it's to soak it up and keep it tight, or take the game to the other team. The pressure is there and it's massive. "It would have been nice to go to Amsterdam and take something but it wasn't to be. I think the home games are vital now and we have to maximise the amount of points we take. "It's not an easy thing to do so we know there's a lot of hard work ahead. We should play some nice football at Hampden as well and the fans should be like a 12th man for us and push us on. "If we can get a win on Wednesday then we can push on from that." He added: "The onus is on us to go and dictate the match. But there has to also be a certain discipline there and patience as well. "Finland went to Wales the other day and won 2-0 and that can happen anywhere. We're playing against the best players from Iceland who have played all around the world. "So we have to be patient but the onus is on us to go and take the match by the scruff of the neck."
