Roma could snare Barzagli

Wolfsburg could be willing to let Andrea Barzagli return to Italy, with Roma heading the queue to secure the 29-year-old's services.

Corriere dello Sport reports that the Giallorossi have made the capture of a new central defender their main priority before the transfer window closes at the end of August and Barzagli is high on their wanted list.

Roma see him as the ideal replacement for Nicolas Burdisso who continues to be linked with a transfer to Inter Milan.

Head coach Claudio Ranieri is a big fan of the former Palermo defender who has struggled to come to terms with life in the Bundesliga.

He has made 69 appearances for Wolfsburg during his time in Germany having previously featured in more than 150 matches for Palermo.
