Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that he will be hoping to add several new players to his squad before the end of the transfer window.
Rayo Vallecano midfielder Mohamed Diame is top of the Latics' wanted list, but a move has been delayed by a medical issue.
However, Martinez is hopeful the deal will go through soon as he searches for a replacement for departed central midfield man Lee Cattermole.
"We are still waiting to finalise (the Diame deal)," confirmed the former Swansea chief.
"We are hoping we are in the final stage of negotiations.
"My concentration is on the players we have here but to help these players to be strong throughout the campaign I think we need another two or maybe three; depending on certain situations."
He added that he believes he needs new recruits due to the young nature of his squad, while the loss of Olivier Kapo to injury has further damaged his options.
"In that respect I would say until August 31 we should bring in another two or three players in to help the ones we have here," he added.
