Whelan wants PL bottle

Wigan owner Dave Whelan has urged the Premier League to stand up and fight against the 'absolute madness' behind the current scheduling of international fixtures. The Wigan supremo is livid as a number of the club's players have been pulled away on international duty just days before the Latics open their Premier League campaign against Aston Villa on Saturday. He does not feel clubs should be forced to release their players if internationals are staged at such a crucial stage of pre-season and now plans to take the matter further. Whelan told Sky Sports News: "It's absolute madness, we've got players flying all around the world. "The Premier League, the biggest league in the world, and we've got players thousands of miles away playing and we don't know whether they are going to come back fit. "The Premier League should get some bottle, stand up to the FA and say, 'In certain weeks we are not releasing any players.' "That is one thing I am going to bring up at the next meeting."
