Whelan tipping the Latics for a bright future

It is well known that Sunday afternoon represents another historic chapter in the club's recent history as the club battles to retain Premier League status for a seventh year. Chairman Dave Whelan believes that should the Latics survive this season, then his club will go on and thrive, with a bright future ahead of it. The Latics chairman told the Manchester Evening News: “It’s in our hands. You just need a little bit of luck but I keep saying you have to make your own luck in this game. I’ve never known the Premier League to be so tight and so competitive. “All the teams who are down there are capable of playing quality football but staying up is everything because I really do feel the future for Wigan is extremely bright. “We’ve played extremely well this season, the football has been good, I’ve enjoyed it, Roberto  has stuck to his philosophies and if we can beat the drop then we can build on this because we have plenty of talent. “What’s more, we’re the youngest team in the Premiership and we are playing well. We’ve proved we can compete with the best, we’ve put together a very good squad and we’ve played a very good brand of football. “We’ve gone out and entertained but, at times, we’ve not had the breaks.” The Latics chairman has been very supportive of his manager, Roberto Martinez, who as well as cutting the wage bill, has instilled a wonderful ethic right through the football club. Long term supporters of the club are delighted with the work that Martinez has started with the Latics and survival this weekend would allow the Spaniard to take the club to the next level.
