Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has placed a £15million price-tag on the head of the Latics' Colombia international striker Hugo Rodallega.
The 24-year-old South American is a rumoured target for Arsenal, having scored 13 goals in 57 appearances for Wigan, with Whelan admitting that a deal could be too good to resist.
He told Soccernet: "We do have to be realistic and sometimes we have to sell to survive and that means selling one of our best players.
"It is simple economics for a club like Wigan that we have to sell a player now and again to survive, however much we don't like selling and would love to keep all our good players.
"But also, if one of the top six, or even top eight clubs want one of our best players it would be wrong to stand in their way and we wouldn't do that.
"Certainly I would say £15million for Rodallega isn't outrageous. Of course he is a player we do not want to sell and I would love it if he started next season with us, but equally sometimes we have to sell a player like this."
Latics boss Roberto Martinez had previously stated that no bids have so far been tabled for Rodallega, telling Sky Sports News: "First of all, we are excited when one our player gets attention from one of the big clubs.
"It is because the player is enjoying their football and doing well."
