Whelan rules out Rodallega sale
18 Jan 2010 - 10:27:12
Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has ruled out his club allowing star striker Hugo Rodallega to leave in the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old Colombia international is reported to be interesting the likes of Birmingham City and Stoke City, but Whelan insists that Rodallega is going nowhere.
He said: "We don't want to sell Hugo, full stop, but we are Wigan and have to be sensible.
"But there is no chance of selling Hugo in the (January) window. We are selling no-one in the window.
"Those kinds of players are the difference between staying up and getting relegated. You've got to score goals to stay up. He is just brilliant, that lad, a wonderful player.
"Rodallega could have had two or three goals against Wolves. He is so quick, but it wouldn't go in for him. He is normally lethal as a striker and is a real handful."
Rodallega has scored ten goals in 37 appearances since joining the Latics a year ago from Mexican outfit Necaxa.
