Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has not ruled out the possibility of England international Emile Heskey leaving the JJB Stadium in the January transfer window.
The 30-year-old's current contract expires at the end of the season when he could leave the Latics on a free transfer.
Liverpool, Aston Villa and Tottenham have all been linked with Heskey who has been with Wigan since the summer of 2006.
Whelan said: "Emile's out of contract in the summer, but he doesn't want to sign a new one at the moment.
"It could cost us two, three or four million if that goes on until next summer, so we'll have to see what January brings."
Heskey has scored 15 goals in 82 appearances for Wigan since moving to the JJB Stadium from Birmingham City.
