Trinidad and Tobago international striker Jason Scotland is on the verge of joining Wigan Athletic after the Latics agreed a transfer fee for the 30-year-old with Swansea City.
Scotland has been given permission to speak with Wigan and will discuss personal terms with the Premier League side.
However, Wigan insist a deal is not imminent, with a statement on the club's official website saying: "The transfer's far from complete and the player will not be unveiled until the situation over his permission to work in this country is resolved, and this could take some time.
"The club cannot comment any further on the transfer until he's officially registered and confirmed as a Wigan Athletic player."
The £2.5million-rated striker scored 24 goals in the Championship last season and now seems certain to be reunited with former Swans boss Roberto Martinez at the JJB Stadium.
