Scotland hopes for Bodde deal

Wigan Athletic striker Jason Scotland is hoping former Swansea City team-mate Ferrie Bodde will join him at the DW Stadium. Scotland, along with Jordi Gomez, left Swansea earlier in the summer to follow Latics boss Roberto Martinez to the Premier League club. Martinez is keen to raid his old club again for Bodde, with Swansea having rejected an offer from Wigan for the Dutchman earlier this week. Swansea are keen to secure Bodde on a new contract, but Scotland is equally eager to be reunited with the 27-year-old at Wigan. Dutch Roy Keane "Ferrie is a very good player, and obviously it would be great to have him here," Scotland told the Wigan Evening Post. "He did great for Swansea while I was there, and sometimes a player has to take the next step up. "We'll have to wait and see what happens, but hopefully he will come here and do well. "He has many qualities, but in Holland they gave him the nickname of 'The Dutch Roy Keane', which says a lot. "He is a good passer of the ball, with his left and right foot, he gets stuck in a bit in the middle of the park, and is an all-round good player. "I know a few clubs have been in for him, and that tells its own story for you. "The step up to the Premier League was a challenge I was willing to take, one I am relishing, and I'm sure he could do it as well. Spanish playmaker Gomez added: "Ferrie is a tough-tackling midfielder, but can also play great football, and he scores goals from distance as well. "He is just a great player, and I very much enjoyed playing alongside him last season."
