    Scharner eyes comeback

    25 Jan 2007 - 11:01:20

Wigan Athletic defender Paul Scharner is desperate to get back to full fitness as soon as possible to boost the Latics' fight to stave off the threat of relegation.

The 26-year-old Austria international hasn't featured since early December due to a knee injury, but is hopeful of being ready to return by the middle of March.

He told the club's official website: "No player likes being injured and for me this is a new experience.

"This is the first time I have had an operation and it's the longest time I've ever been injured in my career. It is horrible.

"There is nothing I would like more than to be out there fighting for the team, but unfortunately the best I can do is to cheer from the sidelines.

"I just need to focus now on getting better. I am going to see the specialist about my knee next week and I am hoping he will then give me the all-clear to step up my rehabilitation.

"I'm hoping to be running inside three or four weeks and I'm targeting the home match against Fulham on March 17. That's a realistic target."
