Sammon free to face Stoke after red card reversal

Wigan Athletic striker Conor Sammon will be available to face Stoke in the English Premier League on Saturday after the Football Association upheld his appeal against a red card.
The 25-year-old forward was shown a straight red by referee Phil Dowd during the first half of Wigan's 5-0 defeat by champions Manchester United on Monday after catching Michael Carrick in the face with his hand.
However, the contact appearing to be accidental and the FA accepted Sammon's appeal, meaning he will not have to serve a three-match ban.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, angry at the original decision, welcomed the rescinding of the red card by saying: "We thank the panel for their decision, which is the correct one.
"We now need to draw a line under the matter and move on," the Spaniard added.
"I am delighted to have Conor available for the next three matches. It would have been really unfair for him to share the frustrating feeling that he had on Monday for another three games after doing nothing wrong."
Wigan are currently in the relegation zone, two points shy of safety.
