Pollitt content with Latics role
03 Jul 2008 - 14:15:32
Wigan Athletic's veteran goalkeeper Mike Pollitt is set to stay at the club next season, having agreed a new one-year contract with the Premier League club.
The 36-year-old is happy to act as a back-up to Chris Kirkland, having already spent three seasons with the Latics.
Pollitt told the Manchester Evening News: "I love being at Wigan and I also love being involved within the Premier League.
"I'd naturally have liked to have played more games last season, but it wasn't to be, yet it's still great to be involved at this level and good to keep working hard.
"Chris did extremely well in the second half of last season. He really seemed to kick on when Steve Bruce came in.
"He works very hard and he turned in some fantastic performances, notably against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
"I think he enjoys me pushing him along, he is certainly a top-class keeper and it's just great to be within the set-up.
"I think we can look forward to another good season because we certainly look strong and organised as a unit under Steve Bruce."
