Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce has decided not to sign Egypt international Amr Zaki on a permanent basis.
The 26-year-old made a blistering start to his loan stay at the JJB Stadium, finding the net ten times in his first 16 appearances for the Latics but has failed to score since the turn of the year.
He has also annoyed Bruce on several occasions by returning to the club late from international duty.
"It's sad," admitted the former Manchester United stalwart. "I worked hard to get him and he had a wonderful chance.
"There's a letter gone off to his club and we won't be taking up the option to sign him.
"It's a shame about Zaki because he had the world at his feet when he scored twice against Liverpool.
"He listened to the wrong people and was badly advised. He set us on fire at the start of the season and to be fair we've missed him since Christmas."
