Nash eases Latics woes
19 Feb 2007 - 10:39:58
Wigan Athletic have eased their goalkeeping worries with the signing of Preston North End's Carlo Nash on a month's loan.
The 33-year-old arrives as cover for Chris Kirkland (thumb) and Mike Pollitt (thigh), with John Filan the Latics' only fit senior keeper.
Manger Paul Jewell told the club's official website: "Carlo is a great pro, exactly the right sort of player to come in and play a role for me in the circumstances.
"He is a good shot-stopper and likes to command his box. He has experience at this level and I have no doubt about his ability to move back up to the Premiership.
"I'm disappointed for both Kirky and Polly, who are both such fantastic professionals, but that's the nature of football sometimes, they'll be back and I'm happy Carlo has come in to help us in the mean time."
Nash himself added: "It's great to have a chance of playing in the Premiership again.
"I realise I'll have to fight for my place, but I hope I can help the team for the next month, or however long the agreement lasts."
Nash has been with the Lilywhites for nearly two years, but has not featured in the last month for the Championship promotion hopefuls.
