Melchiot linked with Qatar switch

Out-of-contract Wigan skipper Mario Melchiot has reportedly been lined up for a free transfer switch to join Qatari club Umm Salal. The former Chelsea and Birmingham defender is out of contract this summer after failing to agree new terms with manager Roberto Martinez. According to the Daily Mail, Melchiot, 33, could team up with former Chelsea coach Henk ten Cate at Umm Salal if he agrees the deal.
