McCarthy happy to bide time
Wigan youngster James McCarthy is prepared to be patient in his wait for a first team breakthrough as he continues his comeback from injury with the reserves. McCarthy became one of Roberto Martinez's first signings at Wigan when he snapped up the 18-year-old from Hamilton in July. Niggling injuries have restricted the midfielder to just one senior league appearance as a substitute against Manchester United since then, but McCarthy believes he is making progress with the reserves. "Match fitness is what I need and that's what I'm getting in reserve-team football," McCarthy told www.wiganlatics.co.uk. "It's a very good standard, and I'm happy to be playing 90 minutes trying to get my fitness levels up. "I am still young, so I need to bide my time and hopefully when I get my chance I'll be able to take it. "You are always learning in football. Coming down here has been a big learning curve for me but I'm enjoying it."
