Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is pleased with the way his team's pre-season preparations have been going. The Latics thrashed Preston North End 4-1 at Deepdale in their latest friendly on Tuesday and it was a display that thrilled the Spaniard. He said: "There are many things that we need to do better, and many things we need to correct - but on the other side they are many pleasing things that are giving us a good platform to build on. "We are excited, we are looking forward, but tonight we have won nothing. 'We need to make sure we continue working hard and getting the players to master what they are good at. "This was another good fitness exercise, and it was pleasing to see the players implementing all the concepts that we have been working on. "It is good to see the healthy competition that we have got in the squad, and the players are all hungry and desperate to play for the club, which you need in any successful team. "But we must remember this is pre-season. It was a fitness exercise and there are not many players in the squad who are ready to play 90 minutes at the moment."
