Martinez targetting next four games
Roberto Martinez is targetting the next four games as a crucial period for hte Latics as he looks to re-invigorate the start to the season.
Despit the pretty football and the decent displays (Fulham aside), the Latics have struggled once again to get points on the board.
Now manager Roberto Martinez is targetting the next four fixtures against Sunderland, Everton, West Ham, and Swansea to boost the points total and push up the league table.
"You can work and work at things and aspects in football and spend hours on physical, technical and tactical areas of your team but nothing gives you that strength that a winning feeling gives you," Martinez said.
"We don't want to be a team that just fights against relegation, we want to be a team to do something else, and that means the next few games are vitally important.
"I would say that looking at the start of the season it's been a good start, without being an excellent start from a points point of view.
"I'm very happy with the competition for places and with the look the squad has at the current time and I'm very much looking forward to the next three or four games.
"I do feel that this is probably the strongest squad we've ever had at Wigan Athletic since I've been here in terms of the quality we have got and it's our unique opportunity to be tested.
"To make seven changes and go to such a difficult ground as Upton Park and win a football game but not just that but scoring four goals and showing the type of control we had. It's very pleasing."
Martinez presently has a slection dilemma after a number of fringe players impressed in Tuesday's midweek Capital One Cup demolition of West Ham.
Mauro Boselli, Callum McManaman, Ryo Myaichi, and David Jones are all now pushing for a starting place against Sunderland, whilst James McArthur has taken a step towards full fitness and could be in contention.
