Martinez seeks strike boost
21 Jan 2010 - 11:15:23
Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez is hoping to bolster his attacking options before the transfer window closes.
Latics chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that Martinez has focussed his attention on a new striker after landing goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic and defenders Gary Caldwell and Steve Gohouri already this month.
"I have meetings with Roberto once or twice a week and he is never happy. He is always looking," he told the Evening Post.
"We've already brought in three players, but Roberto is constantly on the look-out for quality players and he wants a striker now.
"We're looking at that and we'll see if we can help him."
Celtic's Scott McDonald and Kris Boyd of Rangers are two strikers whose names have been linked to the DW Stadium outfit.
"We will keep working as hard as we can to bring in more players this month," added Whelan.
"We have recently lost Olivier Kapo and Marlon King, so we will definitely be looking at strikers. We know we need more cover up front.
"I have not got a set number of signings in mind. What we are looking at is bringing in the right characters and personalities, but it also depends on who is available."
