Wigan Athletic's French forward Olivier Kapo is set to miss the start of the new Premier League campaign after suffering a knee injury during the pre-season trip to Austria.
The Latics had initially feared that the 28-year-old had suffered torn knee ligaments in a friendly against Hannover, but a strain has now been diagnosed.
Boss Roberto Martinez told the club's official website: "We are actually quite relieved because we thought it could be a lot worse.
"Our initial assessment was that it could have been a cruciate injury, which can wipe out virtually a whole season, so in that sense we are actually quite happy it is not that serious.
"Injuries like this are a part and parcel of the game, you cannot control it. It is a shame because Olivier had been doing very well.
"He is a very gifted player technically and he had been really impressing me in training.
"But he needs to be patient now and do everything he can to regain his fitness."
