Martinez praises striker Scotland

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez thinks striker Jason Scotland has the best years ahead of him. The 30-year-old forward followed Martinez to the DW Stadium from Swansea during the summer for £2million and, after an impressive performance in the 3-1 win over Chelsea, went on to start the following game against Hull City. Martinez has welcomed the "different option" Scotland offers his side, and the Latics boss has moved fellow forward Hugo Rodallega into a wider role to accommodate the Trinidad and Tobago international. "They are completely different players and they give you different options and dimensions," Martinez said. "We needed to play in a different way to try to hurt Chelsea and it is important we have those different dimensions. "Too many times as a team you have one dimension and that is a little bit dangerous in the Premier League. "Jason and Hugo have played together up front but in different positions because we never play 4-4-2. "But good players can play anywhere. The good thing is to have them at the top of their game and enjoying their football and at the moment they are doing that." PrimeMartinez also insists Scotland has his best years ahead of him, despite being 30, and is hoping he can emulate veteran Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs who is still playing in the Premier League at 35. "Jason started playing at 18, and I would say that is probably a bit late," he said in the Wigan Evening Post. "He only arrived in Britain at the age of 24 because of work permit problems, but he is only six years old in the British game and that is how I see it. "I believe that the best years in his career are in front of him, which is very rare but obviously there is a clear reason why. "There are not many like Ryan Giggs in world football, but it does show you nowadays that if you look after your body then age is not a problem."
