Martinez in hunt for new signings

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez will continue in his efforts to strengthen his squad after seeing the Latics held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted Norwich in the Barclays Premier League opener at the DW Stadium.

So far this summer, the Spaniard has snapped up goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi - following his loan from Bolton last season - on a permanent deal, along with free transfers David Jones and Nouha Dicko.

"We are still looking for two players," Martinez said. "We lost two influential players (Tom Cleverley and Charles N'Zogbia) last campaign."

He added: "I want to fulfil those roles with players who are already here, but it is only fair to the squad that we have enough numbers to face the demands of the Premier League, and we will do that."

Asked whether Peter Odemwingie, for whom West Brom rejected a bid, had been regarded as a potential replacement for Hugo Rodallega, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Martinez said: "No, it would be an addition.

"I don't know what players we are going to bring in, that is the reality, although I know exactly what we need from a character point of view.

"But having lost Cleverley and N'Zogbia, we are two bodies light.

"We need to bring two players in and that is where as a football club we are working extremely hard."
