Martinez hails Wigan response
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez hailed the way his side hit back from an early disappointment to end Burnley's run of home victories. Steven Fletcher put the Clarets ahead at Turf Moor but Martinez's side equalised minutes later through Hugo Rodallega before going on to win 3-1. The former Swansea boss was delighted with the way Wigan dealt with the threat of a confident Burnley side, who had boasted a 100 per cent home record before the game. "It's a very tough place. We all know the record Burnley's got at home," Martinez told Sky Sports after the match. "Not just this season, over the last few campaigns so (I'm) very, very pleased with the overall performance and obviously with the result." Burnley looked to be heading for their fifth home win of the season when Fletcher opened the scoring but the hosts were surprised by a terrific response from Wigan. "I think it is credit to Burnley, the way they get the results. They're really, really sharp, probably we switched off at a throw-in and they took advantage of it," Martinez said of Fletcher's goal. "It's great to see that reaction, I think it was a real test in the first half and I felt that we played probably our best football in that period after we conceded and that was very pleasing. "But then a couple of problems that we had through injury and you're looking at the overall performance. "We've been able to adjust and we've been able to finish the game really, really strong and to do that at Turf Moor speaks volumes of the performance of the players." The Spanish manager singled out Colombian front-man Rodallega for his quality finishing but insisted that his squad as a whole is still a work in progress. "We still are in that transitional period," Martinez added. "We've got players that are coming from the Championship, players from the second division in Spain. "It's a new group and it's going to take time individually adapting to the demands of the Premiership and as a collective we're still doing that "But when you've got that attitude that you want to gel in, you want to work hard for each other, you can see that the level of performance we've been showing, consistently, is very pleasing."
