    Martinez fumes after injustice

    30 Mar 2010 - 08:30:35

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez was angry after seeing his side beaten 3-0 by Manchester City after having Gary Caldwell red-carded at Eastlands.

Martinez felt that his team were well in the game until Caldwell was dismissed by referee Stuart Attwell for a strong challenge on Carlos Tevez, who went on to score a 12-minute hat-trick.

"We are all human beings and we all make mistakes, but to give a decision after something you don't see that is lying," Martinez fumed. "You are making it up. That is hard to take.

"He (the referee) said he saw Gary Caldwell with both feet off the ground, that's why he gave the red card. But Gary Caldwell only went with one foot. That's a real injustice.

"I was feeling confident going in to the last half an hour, but the key decision was a real footballing injustice.

"Gary went in for the ball really strongly, Carlos Tevez sees it coming and jumps off the ground with both feet. If anyone deserves a red card, it is the striker.

"We have never had one bit of luck all season and it adds to the injustice that we might lose Gary for three matches.

"We will look into an appeal, because we cannot just accept being punished not just for this game, but for the next three games.

"Moments like this are very, very hard to take.

"What we have to do now is react in the right manner, as we always do and make sure we work even harder to make things happen."
