Maloney attracted by Premier League
Wigan's new signing Shaun Maloney is delighted to get the opportunity to play Premier League football once again.
The 28-year old signed at the DW Stadium for around £1 million and is hoping for a more successful spell in England than when he played for Aston Villa for just under two years from 2007. His 18-month stint at Villa Park didn't quite go to plan, but he now has the opportunity to play in the Premier League once again.
He told the club's website: 'I spoke to the manager [Roberto Martinez] a couple of days ago and that started to be the reason why, over the last couple of days, I thought this would be something that excites me. I can't wait to get started. 'After speaking with both clubs, I decided it was probably the right time - especially the league Wigan are in, it is just something that straight away appealed. 'And the manager was that positive when I spoke to him that you just want to come and train and play under him.'Maloney was joined on transfer deadline day by Chelsea's Holland under-21 defender Patrick Van Aanholt, who will spend the rest of the season on loan at Wigan.
