Wigan Athletic have been warned that their efforts to try and sign Australia striker Scott McDonald from Celtic are almost certain to end in failure.
The 26-year-old was the subject of interest from the Latics before the transfer window slammed shut last week, but McDonald's agent doubts that a deal can be resurrected in the future.
Lou Sticca told the Evening Post: "My understanding was there was a tentative approach made to Celtic that was flatly rejected.
"As far as Scott is concerned, he has three more years on his contract with Celtic and all he wants is to win as much silverware as possible for the club he has supported from childhood.
"Some players never win anything and very few actually play for the club they supported from childhood. In Scott's case he is doing both."
McDonald has scored 54 goals in 106 appearances for the Bhoys, having moved to Parkhead from Motherwell in the summer of 2007.
