Latics waiting on McCarthy scan
Roberto Martinez is eagerly awaiting scan results following the ankle injury suffered by James McCarthy in the friendly game with Villerreal at the weekend. Twenty year old McCarthy limped off early in the second half in the 1-0 victory over Spanish side Villerreal after a heavy tackle. The midfielder is due to receive the results of the ankle scan today and boss Roberto Martinez is hoping for good news. He told the Wigan Evening Post: “We are a bit concerned about James, although the good thing is he doesn’t seem to be as bad as we originally thought. “The ankle is clearly something he has had trouble with in the past, and it was a late challenge that caught him again this time. “As a result the ankle caught in the turf, and we’ll find out the full extent in the next 24 hours – although we are remaining quietly optimistic.” McCarthy is expected to be fit to face Norwich City in the season opener on Saturday, although former Hamilton team mate James McArthur is waiting in the wings.
