Latics to land Harewood

Reports suggest that Wigan Athletic are leading the chase to sign West Ham United striker Marlon Harewood.

It is believed that the former Nottingham Forest hot-shot will become the Latics' seventh summer signing next week.

The £4million-rated forward has also been linked with Manchester City and Birmingham City this summer.

Wigan boss Chris Hutchings has already signed Jason Koumas, Antoine Sibierski, Titus Bramble, Carlo Nash, Mario Melchiot and Andreas Granqvist since replacing Paul Jewell in May.

Harewood has scored 56 goals in 170 first-team appearances for the Hammers but struggled last term.

The 27-year-old found the net only three times in the Premiership in 2006-07 after registering 14 goals the previous season.
