Latics snare keeper Nash
27 Jun 2007 - 16:39:47
Wigan Athletic manager Chris Hutchings has made the experienced Preston North End goalkeeper Carlo Nash his fifth signing since replacing Paul Jewell as Latics manager last month.
The 33-year-old has a wealth of experience having played 233 League games for his five clubs - Crystal Palace, Stockport County, Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Preston - during an 11-year professional career.
Nash spent part of last season on loan at the JJB Stadium but failed to make a first-team appearance for the club.
Hutchings told the Latics' official website: "Carlo is a top-class keeper who wants to get back to the Premiership and I'm delighted he's decided to join us.
"We got to know him as a person last season, which is always very important, and I think he'll fit in here. He's a good pro, who will buckle down and work hard every day, and add serious competition for places.
"With Chris Kirkland and Mike Pollitt already here, it means we have three quality goalkeepers at the club, all capable of playing at the highest level, and all vying for the shirt. Hopefully, he can give me a really big selection headache."
Nash had been at loggerheads with North End after a proposed move to the Premier League with Fulham fell through during the January transfer window.
Hutchings has already snapped up Titus Bramble, Antoine Sibierski, Mario Melchiot and Andreas Granqvist this summer as he bids to improve on Wigan's 2006-07 campaign when they only avoided relegation on the last day of the season.
