Latics line up Nash move
21 Jun 2007 - 14:46:53
Wigan Athletic are close to landing Carlo Nash after agreeing a £300,000 fee with Preston North End for the experienced goalkeeper.
Nash, 33, spent the second half of last season on loan at the JJB Stadium as cover for injury-plagued Wigan trio Chris Kirkland, Mike Pollitt and John Filan.
Latics boss Chris Hutchings has been keen to add competition to his goalkeeping ranks for next season and has agreed a fee with Preston for the Bolton-born keeper.
Nash had been at loggerheads with North End after a proposed move to the Premier League with Fulham fell through during the January transfer window.
"I can confirm we have accepted a no-strings cash offer for Carlo Nash from Wigan Athletic of £300,000," chairman Derek Shaw told the club's official website.
"Carlo is currently on honeymoon, but he is due back in the country at the beginning of next week and will meet with Wigan on Tuesday, so we believe, where we expect him to finalise his personal terms and complete the move."
Nash has previously played in the top-flight with Manchester City and Middlesbrough during a 12-year professional career.
Earlier in the week, Hutchings agreed terms over a new contract with veteran keeper Pollitt. The 35-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal to tie him to the Latics until next summer.
