Latics join Mariappa chase

Wigan Athletic are said to have joined Swansea, Arsenal, and Newcastle United in the chase for highly rated Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.

The 25 year old defender has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs with Newcastle United in particular already having three bids rejected by the Hornets.

The Latics are said to have tabled an offer in the region of £2 million for the centre back but with Watford demanding upwarsd of £4 million there is presently a stalemate.
