Wigan Athletic boss Chris Hutchings was looking on the bright side after seeing his side edged out 1-0 by Liverpool at the JJB Stadium at the weekend.
An excellent Yossi Benayoun strike settled the game 15 minutes from time, after the Latics had pushed their visitors all the way for much of the game.
Hutchings told his club's official website: "Apart from the goal, I thought we defended very well and generally the overall performance was pleasing.
"I thought the way that we played, especially in the second half, and the way that we passed the ball around was pleasing.
"At half-time Liverpool changed their side, John Arne Riise went back to left-back and they took off Fernando Torres for a midfielder with 15 minutes to go.
"So there are positives to take, as Liverpool had to change things around to make sure they got all three points and all credit to them for doing that.
"Sometimes you have to have a bit of a game plan and keep it tight for the first 20 minutes or so and hopefully come into the game yourself.
"I thought we did that and in the second half I was very pleased with the performance."
