Wigan Athletic have been fined £20,000 and warned as to their future conduct following incidents in last month's tempestuous defeat to Newcastle United.
A Regulatory Commission handed out the fine after the Latics admitted two charges of failing to ensure that their players and officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.
Wigan players were incensed when referee Steve Bennett awarded Kevin Kilbane a second yellow card following an aerial challenge with Alan Smith.
The Latics were subsequently charged with failure to control their players.
Boss Chris Hutchings had said after the match: "I'm very disappointed with the decision (to send Kilbane off).
"I think that the referee made some strange decisions - a few of them went against us."
Bennett was scheduled to referee Wigan's fixture with Liverpool on 29 September but was withdrawn as the charge had not been heard.
