Latics close in on Koumas

Wigan Athletic appear to have won the race to sign West Brom midfielder Jason Koumas after Albion accepted a £5.3million bid for the Wales international.

The news comes on the same day that the Baggies accepted a £6million bid from Fulham for Senegal striker Diomansy Kamara.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace told the club's official website: "We've said all along we'll only consider selling players like Diomansy and Jason if we receive head-turning offers and that the deals are in the club's best interests.

"We feel these offers mirror those criteria."

Last month Albion rejected a £4million bid from a Premier League side, believed to be Wigan, for Koumas.

Fulham also failed with a joint bid for Kamara and 27-year-old Koumas.

Koumas moved to The Hawthorns in a £2.25million transfer from Tranmere Rovers five years ago.
