Kone reveals England interest

New Hannover loan signing Arouna Kone has revealed he turned down the chance to move to England before opting for a temporary transfer to Germany.

The Sevilla striker has found himself down the pecking order this term and was made available by coach Manolo Jimenez.

It is believed Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez showed and interest, as well as Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan.

But Kone decided to pen on the dotted line for the Bundesliga side in order to increase his chances of making Ivory Coast's World Cup squad next summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports he said: "I am very happy to be here, I am looking for first-team football. Hannover has given me the opportunity to do that.

"I could have gone to England, teams like Middlesbrough and a Premier League team were interested in me.

"But I chose Hannover because I will be ready here to force my way back in the Ivorian national team for the World Cup."
