Kirkland remains confident

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is confident the ailing Latics can end their recent dismal run and stave off the threat of relegation.

Paul Jewell's side are currently in the midst of a six-match losing run in the Premiership which has seen the club slip down to 17th place in the table.

But the England international has backed his under-fire team-mates to bounce back starting with the visit of Everton on Saturday.

"It's as bad a run as I've experienced and, when you look at the table it's not pretty, but at this point I'm not worried about relegation," he claimed.

"Everyone in the dressing room is confident we have the players and that we can get out of trouble.

"If we play to our ability and we believe in ourselves then we will be okay."
