Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is set to be out of action for at least a fortnight after damaging his collarbone during training.
The 28-year-old was injured last week and has seen a specialist to gain a full diagnosis of the problem.
Manager Roberto Martinez told the club's official website: "This is a completely new injury, I must stress that, it could have happened to anyone.
"I'm disappointed to lose him, but the diagnosis is much better than it could have been and Chris should be back in full training within a fortnight hopefully.
"It's important that we get him back in contention as soon as possible, but we have to be certain the injury is healed before risking him."
Kirkland's absence at the weekend saw Vladimir Stojkovic start in the 2-2 FA Cup fourth round raw at Notts County, with veteran Mike Pollitt on the bench.
