Keane Wigan move delayed
Will Keane's proposed loan move to Wigan is on hold until Manchester United discover the extent of a foot injury the youngster sustained on England Under-21 duty this week.
Keane has recovered from the knee problem that kept him out for the whole of last season and Red Devils boss David Moyes has granted a temporary switch to Wigan in a bid to build up the 20-year-old's fitness.
Latics boss Owen Coyle had hoped the move could be sanctioned ahead of this weekend's Championship encounter with Brighton at the DW Stadium.
However, the Scot has confirmed that will not happen, although Keane could follow United team-mate Nick Powell to Wigan by next weekend providing the injury sustained during Tuesday's 9-0 win over San Marino in Shrewsbury does not turn out to be serious.
"It is fair to say we have a verbal agreement with Manchester United regarding Will," Coyle told BBC Radio Manchester.
"He was away with the Under-21s this week and took a slight knock, so I spoke to David Moyes last night.
"Given the lad had a very serious injury we would always be guided by them in terms of when they think it is the right time for him to come out on loan.
"This week would probably be too soon but if the Manchester United doctor is happy with it, there is a possibility we could have that sorted by next week."
Keane has always been regarded as one of the most promising of United's present crop of youngsters and was handed his first-team debut in 2011 when he was introduced as a substitute into the New Year's Eve defeat by Blackburn at Old Trafford.
His career stalled when he suffered a major injury on England Under-19 duty in May 2012 but Coyle will hope to eventually profit from the striker's presence in Wigan's bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.
"This is a lad who is going to be a top player," said Coyle.
"He knows where the goal is and plays beyond his years in terms of his knowledge of the game.
"He is a player I have admired for many years.
"It would be great to add someone of that quality to the squad.
"David (Moyes) will keep me up to speed with that and we will see how that one pans out in the next couple of days."
