Karl Henry isn't a dirty player, says Wolves team-mate Kevin Doyle

Kevin Doyle insists team-mate Karl Henry is a 'fair' player after the Wolves captain was shown a straight red card for a wild challenge in his side's 2-0 defeat at Wigan. Henry has come under fire after he was dismissed for the second time this season following a dangerous tackle on Jordi Gomez. Wild: Henry was dismissed in the 11th minute following this wild challenge on Gomez But Doyle, believes Henry, who until this season had not been sent off in over 300 senior appearances, doesn't deserve the negative criticism.  'At the time I saw the tackle and thought it was a difficult one for the referee and would be touch and go,' Doyle said. Up in the air: Henry sent Gomez flying and it was initially feared the Wigan man might have broken his leg 'Karl has apologised for being sent off and he's not a dirty player by any means. 'It was early in the game and he wanted to put in a big tackle to win the ball. 'He was late and sent off and I don't think he could argue with it. 'But that happens in a season - you get reduced to ten men and for a long time we looked like we were going to cope with it. Seeing red: Referee Lee Mason took no hesitation in dismissing the Wolves skipper 'More might be made of it because it was on television but it's only his second sending off. 'In the time I've played with him I've known him as a very clean and fair player.'  Tottenham 2 Aston Villa 1: Van der Vaart causing Harry a major headacheMartin Samuel: Keep your Tottenham tanks off West Ham's manor, Mr LevyTottenham 2 Aston Villa 1: Redknapp's bargain buy just can't stop scoring  Explore more:People: Kevin Doyle, Karl Henry
