Jewell issues Latics warning

Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell has told his side to tighten up at the back to arrest their slide towards the Premiership relegation zone. A 4-0 thrashing at Chelsea left the Latics just two points ahead of third-bottom West Ham United and facing a nervy next few months. Jewell said after a sixth straight league defeat: "We can't afford to give any team three goals, let alone Chelsea. "When you go to Chelsea you have to play to the best of your ability, but we gave them three goals. "We are making basic mistakes at the moment and you don't want to be giving goals away coming to Chelsea. "We have to take the blame collectively. We all make mistakes, I won't blame individuals. "We take it on the chin and it is up to us to try and stop it. We are making serious errors and getting punished at the moment."
