Injury lay-off for Scharner
29 Dec 2006 - 11:26:28
Wigan Athletic boss Paul Jewell will be without the services of key midfielder Paul Scharner for up to two months after the Austrian star was forced to undergo knee surgery.
The 26-year-old played in the first 16 Premiership matches of the campaign for the Latics but has missed the last four games - all of which have been lost - because of the knee injury.
Jewell said: "Scharner has had an operation and is going to be out for six to eight weeks, which is a blow for us.
"We haven't the biggest squad in the world, and now we've quite a few injuries."
Scharner has scored six goals in 37 appearances for the Latics since moving to the JJB Stadium from Austria Vienna in January.
