Heskey future 'in balance'
30 Dec 2008 - 09:17:31
Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has admitted that Emile Heskey's future at the JJB Stadium is hanging in the balance.
Heskey, 30, is out of contract with the Latics at the end of the season and has been linked with a cut-price move in January despite manager Steve Bruce revealing his determination to keep hold of the England striker.
The former Liverpool striker is reported to be wanted back at Anfield, while Tottenham and Everton have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
"Everybody knows Emile Heskey's future hangs in the balance right now ahead of the transfer window opening on Thursday," Whelan told the Wigan Evening Post.
"Emile is out of contract at the end of the season but there have been no approaches for him.
"If Emile eventually moves on we naturally have to find a quality replacement.
"We totally respect Emile and it all depends on what he wants to do.
"I honestly feel this could be his last career move but obviously we would love to see him stay at Wigan."
Meanwhile, the Latics are reportedly close to finalising a deal to sign Colombia international striker Hugo Rodallega Martinez from Mexican club Necaxa.
