Heskey fitness boosts Latics
12 Mar 2008 - 11:54:05
Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey has received a boost, with a scan on his latest foot injury showing no broken bones.
The 30-year-old England international has suffered a number of injury problems this term and the Latics feared that he could be facing another lay-off after limping out of the goalless draw with Arsenal.
However, subsequent tests have revealed just bruising to Heskey's foot and he will be back in contention for the weekend showdown with Bolton Wanderers.
Manager Steve Bruce told the Evening Post: "The big concern was that he got a knock on the site of his old fracture, but thankfully everything is intact.
"I think we've just started to see Emile back to what we know he can be.
"We all know his importance to the side, we now just need him to start scoring goals to put the icing on the cake. Emile needs to take some of the chances we are creating."
Heskey has scored only one goal this season, that coming way back in mid-August in the 3-0 home victory over Sunderland.
