Heskey faces injury woe

Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey suffered a suspected broken toe in the 1-1 draw with Fulham and is a major doubt for England's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia next month.

The 29-year-old, who won an international recall for the recent clashes with Israel and Russia lasted just nine minutes of the JJB Stadium encounter, before limping off after pulling up under no challenge.

A disappointed Latics boss, Chris Hutchings, told the club's official website: "He's had an X-ray and we are waiting for the results.

"He's rolled over on his ankle, but to what extent the damage is, we don't know yet.

"The scans could show it is a metatarsal, but we hope it isn't. It's very disappointing for him, especially with week he's had."

Meanwhile, Hutchings was less than impressed by his side's display against the Cottagers, adding: "We started very slowly, we didn't retain the ball and we didn't pass it. The second half was a little better and we showed more urgency.

"We got a result at the end of the day, but it was not really deserved.

"They were a lot sharper and mentally brighter than us. It didn't help that we lost Emile early on."
